Welcome to The Happy Tudor!

Hello and welcome to The Happy Tudor!! We’re so glad you stopped by, and we can’t wait to share more with you. We’re a husband (Adam) and wife (Amber) living in Knoxville, Tennessee who love design, travel, food, and finding beauty in life’s everyday moments, and we’re so excited to have this space to share these loves.

A bit about the name The Happy Tudor: Going into the home buying process, we never expected to fall in love with a Tudor style home. To us, the word Tudor conjured dark, gloomy, and cavernous images. However, when we first stepped in our home, a 1940 Tudor, we were immediately taken by the amazing natural light, original floors, and wood trim, and just the overall architecture, character, and bones. No doom and gloom in sight. Our new vision for our home caused us to reenvision what Tudor meant to us, a place that could feel cozy and happy with all of the natural Tudor charm. We wanted to convey our new sense of the word to others and thus coined our home The Happy Tudor. It only felt natural for us to title our lifestyle site The Happy Tudor. This blog will focus both on the design process of our home and our love for every (well… most every) aspect of that process but also on our general lifestyle within our Happy Tudor, including travel, style, and food. We love learning and continuing to grow and feel that this will provide a creative outlet for us to share our growth and knowledge we gain in our adventures.

A bit about us: We have been together since before we could even drive and feel so incredibly blessed to have grown up together, discovering passions and interests, creating memories, going through major life changes, and making plans for the future all by each other’s side. Just like with our home, I think we knew from the beginning that being together just felt right, and we haven’t looked back. We both grew up with a love for art and all things creative and always feel a need to create. Actually, my first memory of Adam is that he was the boy whose artwork won the cover contest for our elementary school yearbook when we were in Kindergarten!

We have our own strengths and bring out the best in each other. Amber has a love for food and cooking, and Adam has a deep passion for photography, from portraits to interiors. Most every photo we share comes from Adam’s camera.

In addition to our similar loves and interests, we have quite different day jobs. Adam works as a band director for junior and high school students, and Amber is a registered dietitian who works in public health on school and community health initiatives. We both love what we do but also enjoy creating together outside of our day jobs.

As we move forward with The Happy Tudor, we have big hopes and dreams and are thrilled to dive right in and share these with you. You’re in for a lot of transformed hot pink walls and purple toilets! We’re looking forward to it and know it will be so much fun! Let’s get started!

  • Just came across your blog from The Everygirl! Looking through your photos I thought “I’m gonna see these ALL OVER Pinterest!”. I had no idea you were a new blog! Yay for new inspiration! 🙂

    • Lauren, thank you so much for your kind words and for stopping by! We’re happy to hear you stumbled upon it from the Everygirl. We’ve loved them for a long time and were so excited for that feature!

  • Our new home is full of beautiful wood and I have been struggling with how to modernize and keep those elements while preserving the history of the home. You’ve done it beautifully!! Just WOW! So happy to stumble upon your blog this morning and excited to start another project today! Would you mind sharing your paint colors for each room? They look very similar to those I’m sampling on my walls now. Thank you and can’t wait to follow you on this adventure!

    • Paula, congratulations on your new home, and thank you for stopping by! We really had to give a lot of thought on how to work with our woodwork too. Paint color makes a huge difference, and painting was one of the first projects we tackled. It’s amazing how much the lighter, brighter colors really made the wood pop. We used Benjamin Moore Distant Grey for our bathroom, living room, kitchen, and dining room. Our bedroom and hallway are Benjamin Moore Oystershell. Our stairway is Farrow and Ball Cromarty, and our cabinets are Farrow and Ball Pigeon, which is in the same family as Chromarty. Please let us know if you have any other questions, and good luck!

  • I absolutely love your kitchen! Please, please, please tell me the color you used on your base cabinets.

  • Hello Amber and Adam! Your blog is beautiful and your home feels so happy! So good to catch up with you through it!

  • Absolutely beautiful! I just bought a home like yours… But it’s definitely not anywhere near yours haha. We have trim too, I love the color you painted on the walls, it compliments the wood trim really well. What color is it?
