We recently started watching this show. While we’re really enjoying it, we are especially intrigued by the 1950s inspired interiors and costuming used. This bedroom designed by Rita Konig for her previous New York apartment literally looks like the embodiment of an English garden. In case the winter blues have you down, it’s just 43 more days and counting until we get that extra hour of evening daylight. It will be here before you know it! We have two abstracts from Michelle Armas that add so much cheer to our hallway. I really like some of her
How’s your week been? Adam and I got two unexpected snow days, and it was AMAZING. Having that extra time at home was great to plan for the year, get some projects done, and spend more time debating painting our dining room trim. We absolutely adore the work of architect Gil Schafer, and he and the designer of my favorite room from his last book are speaking in Nashville in February! I am so pumped! Are you a midcentury fan? The execution of Mandy Moore’s midcentury home by Sarah Sherman Samuel has been flawless! They’re in the final
With the cold weather and holidays this time of year, we often get to spend a bit more time indoors at home. While I used to dread the coming of winter every year, I now appreciate this time to sit down, relax, and refresh. As part of this, Adam and I often find ourselves spending time pouring over some of our favorite design books and sites and taking the time to make plans for home projects over the coming year. Our focus recently has been on the renovation and redesign of our upstairs guest bedroom and bathroom. However, over the
We recently did a post all about Pantone’s Color of the Year, Ultraviolet and I recently came across this room that nails the whole purple thing. I have been seeing some fabulous library spaces pop up on Instagram recently. Some of my favorites have been this, this, and this. Recently came across the work of Allison Cosmos and am so glad I did! Look at this! I am also loving all the canopy beds I have seen recently and this is perhaps my favorite. I am currently reading Bunny Mellon’s biography and cannot put it down!
“I must have flowers, always, and always.” -Claude Monet When it comes to styling and general cheer, flowers are essential. They provide an organic design element that is difficult to replicate. They can add a pop of color, and they just plain smell nice every time you enter the room. Throughout most of the year, we rely either on our garden (thank you previous owner and equal flower lover) or the farmers’ market for most of our flowers. There’s something so exciting about venturing outside and seeing new blooms and bringing a few inside to admire their beauty or
Taking down the holiday decorations and beginning a new year is often a great time to do a bit of restyling. One of the ways we are restyling is by doing a simple dresser refresh in our master bedroom. It had begun to feel cluttered with keys, pencils, and the other random knick-knacks that end up emptied from my pockets after work, and what better place to restyle than a dresser that you see first thing in the morning and right before bed in the evening? Before we dive in, here is a reminder of how our dresser looked like.
Brr! It’s been a cold week, and our laundry room pipes are currently frozen. Yay! Here’s to hoping they thaw out peacefully without any leaks. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to a cozy weekend at home! We were just in Charleston in October, and it’s so crazy to see it looking like a snow globe. Beautiful! How stunning is Claire Foy?! Maybe it’s because I’ve been watching too much of The Crown, but I can’t stop looking at these photos. With the start of the new year, I’m renewing my commitment to bullet journaling, and this video
Image Source Admittedly, I was a bit confused when Ultraviolet was announced as Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2018. As a matter of fact, if I am being completely honest, it is perhaps my least favorite color in interior design. Before I snubbed my nose at this year’s choice, I decided to keep an open mind and dig a little deeper to see how some of the top interior designers were using this color, if at all. To my surprise, I found several examples of leading interior designers already incorporating this bold shade into their work, some on
This has been a year to remember, and we wanted to reflect back on some of our most memorable moments from this past year like starting this site or the trips we took. In making this list, it was hard to believe all of this took place in a single year. 1. Our first snow in our home and our only snow for the year. Crossing our fingers for more snow days this year. Photo by Jennie Andrews 2. Celebrated 10 years as a couple. Adam and I started dating when we were sophomores in high school, and while we’ve
We recently went for a tour of the Biltmore to see it all decorated for Christmas, and it was truly magical. If the above photo of the library doesn’t convince you, then perhaps this will. Mari always nails it and I relate to so many of these experiences in this post. I have spent the last several days designing our upstairs bathroom, and it has been blissful. As we are really going for a classic feel, I have been using Gil Schafer’s books as constant references. If you don’t have his two books (this and this), then literally
